Here's a new take on this fave Monkees rocker!
The song has been lengthened, with added bass, drums, tambourine, percussion, and background vocals, using only the original 60s cut!
One of Davy Jones' best!

Here's a fresh new take on this deep album cut! The song has been lengthened, with extra guitar effects, drums, bass, background vocals, and Mike's censored (and controversial) dialog re-added at the end!

Here is a great recent re-mix of this fabulous Monkees pop hit! The song has been stretched, with added delicious chunky bass layered on top! Plus--guitar bits, hand-claps, vibrato, maracas, backing sounds, and more! You've never heard this pop gem quite like this....

THIS JUST DOESN'T SEEM TO BE MY DAY Re-Mix!
Here is my latest! Using the pristine 1966 backing track from Rhino's recent MONKEES debut LP box set, I set to work extending the song, adding extra bass, backing vocals, percussion, fuzz guitar effects, etc…Then layered in Davy's vocals, and….Enjoy!

STAR COLLECTOR Re-Mix 2!
This has to be the first time I've ever shortened a Monkees tune during re-mixing! I took several vocal-less versions of this tune, added effects, extra drums and percussion, backing vocals (all while trying to eliminate that annoying and shrill organ), then went crazy, adding Davy's vocals back in, and creating an odd little rave-up of this psychedelic nugget! Enjoy!

I'M A BELIEVER Re-Mix!
I was drumming along with the song, practicing, and then ideas for this re-mix came to mind...
Anyway, I began by using the vocal-less early run-thru track of the song, extending the ending, adding another bridge, then layering in Micky's vocals (in the left channel) from his early unused take... I then added extra bass, drums (both snare fills and bass in the right channel), cymbals, vocals and harmonizing, electric guitar, cowbell, vibraslap, effects... It all ended up sounding like a big chunky and funky rave! Enjoy!

NAKED PERSIMMON Re-Mix! Audio AND Video!
Here's a favorite unreleased song, from the Monkees' 1969 NBC-TV special, 33 1/3 REVOLUTIONS PER MONKEE! It's Michael Nesmith's schizo tune, NAKED PERSIMMON (also known as ONLY THING I BELIEVE THAT'S TRUE), re-mixed here as a longer, more rockin' little tune!
To start, I used the vocal-less track included on the recent Rhino INSTANT REPLAY deluxe CD set, and removed the last country stanza of the tune (combining it with the vocals during the 2nd country stanza here), and added more of the "rock portion" to the front, middle, and end. I layered in Michael's vocals, recorded and adjusted from the TV special, letting his voice bounce from left to right channel (where the two sides "argue" with each other)! I added my own backing vocals and harmonies, shakers, cowbell, hand-claps, harmonica, vibraslap, and general percussion throughout, to re-create and re-present this amazing song! TAKE A GIANT STEP! Live 1/1967 Re-MIx!
Most fans own the much-circulated tape of the Monkees live show from January, 1967, recorded at the Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, Arizona (yes, the same live show that can be seen in the "Monkees on Tour" TV show episode that ends their first season). This concert features the usual tunes that the band performed live then, but also contains cuts of rare live takes of PAPA GENE'S BLUES, SHE'S SO FAR OUT, and GIANT STEP! The problem is, the recordings somehow lack the vocals, having been only miked for instruments! Here is my re-mix of GIANT STEP, with Micky's vocals added from the LP version of the song (with extra effects added to help create an authentic "live"sound)! I also added some additional drumming, and an overall stereo effect throughout, to create a sonic artifact of how this great tune probably sounded live during that early '67 tour jaunt! Enjoy!

PORPOISE SONG Re-Mix! Audio AND Video!
This is a long one! I took various released versions of the song, some with the vocals pushed to the front, others with almost no vocals (sometimes layering the different vocal takes), and melded them with portions of other artist's versions of the song (such as those done by BongWater, The Church, and Trouble), and I even brought back the famed ending crescendo! I added continuous backward tracking of the song to the left channel, plus additional bass, cymbals, backing vocals, whale songs, and even a bunch of sound drops (many are Davy Jones-centric) from the 1968 Monkees movie the song is culled from, HEAD! I also added some woodblock effects, bouncing from right to left channel, to provide a constant "click-clack" sound, in order to replicate a ticking clock ("the clock in the sky is pounding away..."), etc...All in an attempt to make this already psychedelic song even more mind-blowing! Get those headphones out and enjoy!

WORDS Re-Mix!
What DIDN’T I do to this mix? I used a “wide-stereo” version of the LP song, then added an extra instrumental break. The bass is double-tracked, even triple-tracked at the end, as well as some of the Eddie Ho drumming.... Add a few bits from the “TV version” of the tune (not much would really fit, due to the differing tempos-it may deserve it’s OWN re-mix!), and some backwards-masking...Extra percussion and such here and there...I also did some lengthening on the ending..It now comes in over 4 minutes! A very psychedlic tune!
PLEASANT VALLEY SUNDAY Re-Mix!
This is probably the most successful of the re-mixes. it involves the vocal-less karoke track, then bringing in the “usual” track with Micky’s fabulous vocals, but adjusting them to sound more laid-back and ethereal. I also brought in the many different endings to create a wild climax, with added drums and bass!

NO TIME Re-Mix!
This is more than just a welding of the many different run-throughs of this song from HEADQUARTERS. Bridging effects were added, elements from other sessions brought in and out, etc. So much came from the Rhino Handmade HQ box set. Lots of fun all the way on this all-Monkees (with some Chip Douglas bass) rave-up!
ZOR AND ZAM Re-Mix!
This came out much better than expected! I took a mono, vocal-less version from the BIRDS, THE BEES... LP, then did some layering and such. Next, I added looped drums and taps throughout, then layered in Micky’s vocals from the TV version. They fit perfectly (with a bit of fiddling)! Who knew? Great ethereal effect! Some vocals from the LP cut remain, and, with some additional effects, bass sweetening, and lengthening, you have a fresh new take on this 1968 anti-war song!
DAILY NIGHTLY Re-Mix!
Here, I took a mono version of the basic track, pre-vocals and Moog effects....added some extra bass, and a few small effects then layered in Micky’s vocals and Moog bits from various sources overtop. I was even able to incorporate portions of the rare mono mix of the finished song, as some effects are different from the stereo LP version of that track. Enjoy!
TAPIOCA TUNDRA Re-Mix!
This re-mix used a rare take that had Michael’s vocals pushed to the right, and, with a little extra bass push, it was already a unique mix. I lengthened the intro, using a mono take (which returns in the middle), and the drum lead-in...Added some shaker, percussion, cymbals, overdubbing, and effects here and there, to make it come alive! Michael’s interview section during the roll-in is from the Monkees’ 1968 Australian press tour.
UPDATE: I couldn’t resist. Thanks to the new Rhino BIRDS, BEES, AND MONKEES deluxe CD re-issue, I HAD to meld the newly released takes of TT onto my original re-mix, making it even weirder, longer, and better (but not bionic). Mike’s different vocals are added to the left channel, with a few more reverb effects here and there, and a surprise ending!
YOU TOLD ME-Live 1968 Re-Mix!
Here it is! Performed as part of a set that included CIRCLE SKY (recorded during this concert for the HEAD film), this is the tune the Monkees rarely performed live then, or in more current shows! Included on Rhino’s new HEAD deluxe CD set, I took the track, added extra bits before and after the song (from other live Monkees sets), and did a bit of stretching to the tune itself. I also had to restore Davy’s bass (listen at the beginning as Peter shows Davy the bass part before taking over on banjo) throughout, as lots of drop-out occurred during the recording, (also replacing his bass in the middle with the actual LP track bassline) as it also did with Michael’s vocals toward the end (I “patched in” some of his later vocals there, from the LP cut of the song). Added cymbals, bass strengthening, compression (thanks to Dolan Bigley), drums, almost-buried background vocals, etc, and the tune is brushed off, brightened, and ready to go!
(THROUGH THE) LOOKING GLASS Re-Mix!
This fun re-mix started with a fan-circulated "out-of-phase" vocal-less base version of the song! I layered back in Micky's vocals, using the recently-released "fuzz-tone guitar" take of the song, from the INSTANT REPLAY deluxe set from Rhino! I wanted to add the fuzz guitar to only ONE channel, over the basic original backing! I enhanced the fuzz effects here an there, with added cymbals, drums, percussion, vocal backing effects, and bass! You'll also hear portions of other versions and takes of the song, as released over the years! I also lengthened the tune, adding various effects and bits at the fade-out, going for a thick, chunky garage band power-pop sound!
